Erin Magill is a production designer splitting her time between California and New York. Born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area, Erin received a BS in Design and Film Studies from UC Davis and an MFA in Production Design from the American Film Institute. While at AFI, Erin was the recipient of the Fisher Fellow Award - annually given to the fellow who best personifies the philosophy of filmmaking as a collaborative art form.

She started her career in film at Pixar Animation Studios working within the art department of “Ratatouille” and “Toy Story 3” and then moved into the live action space as an art director, honing her craft on projects including “Mad Men” and “The Romanoffs” for Matt Weiner, and “Insecure” for HBO - where she designed the show within the show S2, "Due North."

Erin’s first feature as a designer was the critically-acclaimed KICKS from Focus Features and director Justin Tipping; followed quickly by other notable indie films like Netflix’s TRAMPS with dir. Adam Leon, and IFC’s  LOVE AFTER LOVE from Russell Harbaugh. She designed the Sundance favorite HEARTS BEAT LOUD with dir. Bret Haley and the Sundance Audience Award winning film from Amazon BRITTANY RUNS A MARATHON with dir. Paul Downs Colaizzo.

Recent projects include a collaboration with acclaimed video artist Rachel Rose on ENCLOSURE, a film installation set in 17th century England, the critically- acclaimed thriller, SWALLOW, from IFC and dir. Carlo Mirabella-Davis, the pilot of TWENTIES, a Showtime series from writer/creator Lena Waithe, THE QUARRY, a 2020 SXSW Narrative Spotlight selection starring Michael Shannon and Shea Whigham from Lionsgate, and the Netflix feature film directed by Amy Poehler, MOXIE. Most recently, Erin designed the debut season of Ziwe, a variety show from Showtime/A24 and the critically acclaimed Annapurna/Amazon limited series, DEAD RINGERS, a reimagining of the classic Cronenberg film, starring Rachel Weisz.

Working within a wide range of of art departments for almost two decades, Erin has come to understand the designer’s role in the creative process of collaboration to be one of considerable influence. A thoughtful, empathetic and responsible approach to the cultural and societal context of a project, no matter the genre, is fundamental to her design process; respecting the environment and characters’ truth as the basis for every choice she makes as a visual storyteller.
